Press Releases

This May, EWA GSI of Fairmont, West Virginia took up residence in a new 26,000 square foot facility located at 5000 NASA Boulevard, Suite 1200, Fairmont, WV 26554.  This move, which brings all of GSI Fairmont’s operations under one roof, invites the opportunity for expansion of our products and services to better serve both current and future customers.

The Fairmont group includes Dave Richards and his team, who develop and build military intelligence shelters for the Army. These shelters are mounted on reinforced Humvee vehicles and give field commanders secure, classified intelligence analysis data on the battlefield. All shelters will now be stored and maintained on-site at the new building.

In addition, the Fairmont building will house EWA GSI’s Battle Force Electronic Warfare Trainer project, or BEWT, managed by Jeff Mossburg. BEWT is an Electronic Warfare trainer for the Navy that is present on every Navy surface combatant ship. This system allows sailors to connect with the shipboard fire control and to conduct training drills as if there was a real-life threat.

The new building will also be home to Tom Bonazza and his team, collectively reminiscent of the “Q” character in James Bond movies, who develop “gadgets” and capabilities that would please 007 himself. These include: radio frequency (RF) based tagging, tracking and locating (TTL) products; wireless network intercept and reconstruction products; RF circuit design & fabrication with emphasis in battery operation and GPS technology; circuit miniaturization design; remote weapons system networking, command & control; communications systems engineering; specialized enclosure & packaging engineering; schematic design; and PCB layout.

The Lake Mary office of EWA GSI delivered an entry level ground electronic warfare training series to the US Marine Corps for distribution to the USMC Intelligence Schools. Delivered via CD-ROM, the instructor led training modules are browser based and capable for deployment over an internet or intranet.

The courseware has two views, one traditional learner view for the students, and an intuitive, comprehensive teaching view for the instructor including key talking points, full navigation control and student monitoring. Additional features include student quizzes with automatic scoring, and student tracking.

Senator Mitch McConnell and EWA Government Systems, Inc. vice president Ed Tivol were on hand for the official opening ceremony of the cyber defense lab at Western Kentucky University’s Center (WKU) for Research and Development.

EWA GSI is the prime contractor for the Network Attack Characterization Modeling and Simulation Testbed (NACMAST), with construction of the system subcontracted to WKU. WKU and EWA GSI collaborated with Mississippi State University, the University of Arizona, and EdAptive Computing to create the new lab, which will address the increased number of attacks on defense networks with near-real time detection capability.

Three monitors in the cyber lab are at the center of activity. One monitor is attached to a bank of “victim” computers that will be subject to attempted hacks, another monitor is hooked up to “attacking” computers that will attempt to break into the victim’s network, and the third monitor is part of a “referee” network that records activity on the other two monitors. During NACMST’s opening ceremonies, Senator McConnell simulated an attack on the network, which was detected and stopped within two seconds.

“Our country is at war, but I’m not speaking of the war in Iraq or Afghanistan; I’m talking about attacks occurring on secure networks that we depend upon,” said Ed Tivol. The new cyber defense lab will help thwart the nearly 250,000 cyber attacks that occur annually on DoD networks.

Louisiana, Texas, and Indiana organizations employ
EWA
Phoenix™ Crisis Management Tool

EWA
Phoenix is a comprehensive and versatile package of crisis management tools that provide unsurpassed functionality in a single software program. Because it is web-based, unlimited access and sharing of information is easy. Data stored within the EWAPhoenix database is encrypted and access is determined by privileges granted to each user name.

EWA Government Systems, Inc. has leased EWAPhoenixTM to the Louisiana Department of Social Services (DSS). The DSS is the lead state agency for sheltering and evacuation during major disasters and will utilize EWAPhoenix™ during the hurricane season which runs from June 1, 2007 to November 30, 2007.

EWAPhoenix™ will fulfill a vital need for DSS this hurricane season,” said Duane Fontenot, Director of Information Technology for DSS. "The good news is that if DSS 'stands up' sheltering operations this season, we have an evacuee-tracking software system," said DSS Undersecretary Terri Ricks.

The Coastal Bend Regional Advisory Council, headquartered in Corpus Christi TX, has recently purchased EWAPhoenix™ to facilitate the coordination of the region’s EMS agencies to ensure the most efficient, consistent, and expeditious care of the citizens during a major incident.  All EMS agencies within the twelve county area known as the Coastal Bend region of the Texas Gulf coast will utilize EWAPhoenix™ to respond and cope with emergencies.  By using EWAPhoenix™ EMS agencies within the region will maximize resource utilization.

The State of Indiana Hospital Bioterrorism Preparedness Planning Program purchased EWAPhoenix as a real-time reporting system  to enable the State of Indiana to track available beds at its 147 hospitals for emergencies and disasters. The system will have the ability to report aggregate State level data to the HHS Secretary’s Operation Center (SOC) at least twice daily when requested.  Not only will the HHS SOC have access to the number of bed spaces but to the specific hospital capabilities such as decontamination units, ventilator systems and cardiac units.

EWAPhoenix™ is a HIPAA compliant web-based system that allows information to be shared and provides for the seamless interface with systems and programs currently being used by ISDH and/or Hospitals.
